Tips for Making the Best Apple Cobbler:

  • Choose the Right Apples: Opt for apples that are good for baking, like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady. These varieties hold their shape and balance sweetness with tartness.
  • Don’t Overcook the Apples: When cooking the apple filling, only sauté them for a couple of minutes. They’ll finish cooking in the oven and should maintain some texture.
  • Cornstarch for Thickness: Mixing the apple juice (or orange juice) with cornstarch ensures the filling thickens perfectly while baking, preventing it from being too runny.
  • Flavour Boost: Adding a pinch of orange essence to both the filling and the cake batter gives the dessert a bright, citrusy flavour that pairs well with the warm spices.
